Gina decides to go stay at the Riverside, a motel in town, despite her father’s protests. They mention that Jack sometimes goes into that bedroom and so does Mattie, and Natasha for that matter. She confronts Claudia and her dad to find out who did it. Gina goes into Leni’s old bedroom and finds a doll that appears to hold some meaning to her, except its been torn apart. A flashback shows young Leni and Gina with their mom, who appears to have died from cancer at an early age. Even though their dad begs for civility, Claudia ends up leaving the dinner table in a huff.Īfterward, we get an idea of what Floss meant when she said the McCleary family was surrounded by sadness. Claudia is a wheelchair-user and I kind of get the vibe that something might have happened during the girls’ childhood that led to her being that way. If you thought the tension between Gina and Floss was bad, it’s even worse between her and Claudia. Gina stays with her dad Victor (Michael O’Neill) and other sister, Claudia (Ali Stroker). “Let’s just remember that vehicle, shall we?” On the way off the property, they notice a man getting into his pick-up truck and Floss notes that she doesn’t recall seeing him at the search party. Floss says there is a good deal of silence around the McCleary family, always has been. According to the town rumor mill, Gina is the troubled one, not Leni, though she does mention that there is “more than one story,” which will be a theme throughout the season. Leni might have been kidnapped or she could have tried rounding the horses back up and gotten lost or hurt.Īfterward, Floss fills her deputy, Paula Martinez (Rosanny Zayas), in on the McCleary family gossip. The stable office was also ransacked, though Jack says nothing was stolen. There is evidence there was a least one intruder on the premises with footprints matching size 13 shoes. Floss mentions that the bolts to the stables were cut and the horses released. It’s clear there isn’t much love lost between them and Floss alludes to Gina having gotten into some trouble when she was a teenager living in Mt. Echo sheriff, Louise Floss (Karen Robinson). There’s also tension between Gina and the Mt. It’s clear something else is amiss between Jack and Leni, but he’s not saying what just yet. Jack says they got the new colt over a month ago. The last time they talked, Leni mentioned breaking in their new colt. Outside, Gina catches up with Jack, who isn’t all that happy to see her there. She also notices that Mattie’s room has been moved down the hall since the last time she was there. Upon arriving, Gina immediately finds lots of things amiss at Leni’s, like her best friend, Meg, not helping with the search party and a young, blond pretty babysitter named Natasha (Maddie Nichols) looking after Mattie. On the plane ride over, Gina continues searching for her sister anyway she can, leaving her voicemails until her inbox is full and checking Leni’s online diary, which hasn’t been updated in days. Echo, Virginia where Jack and Leni live on a peaceful and picturesque horse farm with their daughter Mattie (Gable Swanlund). Leni has been off the grid for 36 hours and her husband, Jack (Matt Bomer), calls Gina to tell her the worst possible news one could get about their sibling: Leni is officially missing and Jack fears she’s been taken. We’re breaking down all seven episodes of the new miniseries, so if you have questions or want to learn more about the show, dive right in! Netflix Echoes episode 1 recap: HomeĮchoes episode 1 introduces us to Gina McCleary (Michelle Monaghan), an in-demand publisher working in Los Angeles, happily married to her doting therapist husband Charlie (Daniel Sunjata) and in near constant contact with her identical twin sister, Leni (also Monaghan).Īt least, she normally talks to Leni every single day, until recently. The following episode guide contains heavy SPOILERS from the limited series, so make sure to read along as you watch. However, the twins have made sure to leave some key pieces of the puzzle out of reach, making for a gripping and shocking binge-watch. Echo, a steadfast detective looks to put the messy pieces of Leni and Gina’s lives together. In her absence from the small town of Mt. For years, Leni and Gina have shared two lives, two homes, and two husbands, but Leni’s mysterious disappearance knocks down the first domino that unravels the tangled secrets of their past and present. When one of the twin sisters goes missing, the other is left to play both parts. The series stars Michelle Monaghan as twins Leni and Gina, who switch lives to seemingly the point of no return. Jackson Lee Davis/Netflix © 2022Įchoes is the newest Netflix original mystery-thriller limited series that will have the entire world sitting on the edge of their seat looking for clues. (L to R) Michelle Monaghan as Gina McCleary, Matt Bomer as Jack in episode 101 of Echoes. Not sure if either of you played Freedom Planet, but that game had some big levels, which of course Sonic Mania has exceeded in size. I’ve mostly blundered my way through this game so far, but the one or two times I nailed a specific run unscathed-man, those feel good!Įlisha: Yeah, it certainly feels like these levels are some of the biggest I’ve seen in a 2D Sonic. Accessing each branching path seems to require a certain skill or ability executing a jump with the right amount of momentum, getting through a long line of enemies without losing your Thunder Shield, etc. But that’s part of the language memorize the level, explore its many branching paths, and stick to the one that works best for you.Īnd holy cow-these levels are huge! One thing I’m definitely enjoying is the depth of each zone and the challenge in unpacking it. At first, it seems like the most obvious design flaw-interrupting the player’s flow with unforeseeable enemies and spikes in the grass just comes off as rude upon first playing. Joe: Yeah, coming to that realization required many controller tosses, but it does come. Memorizing when certain hazards come up, as Elisha mentioned, is also helpful, and it’s something that’ll happen naturally if you play a zone enough times. This will gradually reduce your momentum and may eventually require you to spin-dash to get yourself started again, but you’ll be much safer. While it may be tempting to just keep running forward and maintain your momentum, you’re often better off if you press down while running to curl into a spiky ball, allowing you to crash straight through most enemies that may be in your path. Sonic does use a different style of platforming from Mario, with several different paths that can be taken through each level. To me, the boss fight against Metal Sonic is the absolute worst thing in this entire game. You’re not the only one with unpopular opinions, Elisha. I have it on Steam now, and I hate Metal Sonic in his original game, too. Kyle: I’ll admit, Joe, I too have a certain boss that I hate: Metal Sonic from Sonic CD, the one 2D Sonic game that I never played as a kid. It’s so weird to think about how much time has passed since the last 2D Sonic! (To be fair, these are the same kids that tell me they don’t know what a Game Boy is, so eh.) As for the trial and error portion, I feel like that’s what makes games like Mega Man, and more recently Slime-San, so fun they challenge you to memorize the layout, and eventually you’ll beat that learning curve. There’s so much trial and error involved with each new area, I’ve come close to bailing on the game multiple times but I keep coming back, and I’m not sure if it’s for that challenge or just so I can get my fill on these sweet tunes! Man, is the music good!Įlisha: Hyper Potions (the duo that did all of the trailer music and opening), is amazing, and the in-game soundtrack is pretty great too! My friend also just told me that there may be a new generation of gamers with which Sonic Mania is their first 2D Sonic game. I’ve had to relearn my entire approach to 2D platformers just to get through each level. As a newcomer to the series (having grown up on the Super Mario series), I’m finding myself totally at odds with the game’s style of challenge. Joe: I’ll second Kyle’s sentiment on the bosses…well, most of the bosses. I’m still working through the early stages of the game, and the second Flying Battery Zone boss is still giving me too much trouble to allow for any endearing feelings from me. Tails identifies as an attack helicopter. However, Burdick initially re-cased the Walkup design into a finger-operated instrument, and as many of his designs echoed those being developed by Walkup, a legal row resulted over the name Air Brush. Burdick founded the Fountain Brush Company in the US, and launched the first series of airbrushes onto the market. The first certain 'atomising' type airbrush was invented by Charles Burdick in 1893 and presented by Thayer and Chandler art materials company at the World Columbian Exposition in Chicago. Amongst others, the Walkups taught airbrush technique to American Impressionist master Wilson Irvine at the Air Brush School in Rockford, Illinois. In that same rented 4 story building Rockford Air-Brush would be established under Liberty Walkup. Walkup's wife would later go on to be the founder of the Illinois Art School where airbrushing was taught to students from all over the world. In modern times the date is used to celebrate airbrush art around the world, using the Twitter hashtag #airbrushartistday. on 6 October 1883, when the name was formally born. Thus according to the research, the formal birth of the name 'Air Brush' can be traced to a documented stakeholders' meeting of the new Air Brush Manufacturing Co. Walkup repatented the work under the name of "air-brush", a name his wife Phoebe Walkup came up with. It took four years of further development before a working prototype was developed by Liberty Walkup of Mt. It was rather crude, being based on a number of spare parts in a jeweller's workshop such as old screwdrivers and welding torches. No artistic images that used this 'paint distributor/atomiser' exist or are as yet known.Īccording to the research prepared by Professor Andy Penaluna, the first instrument to use a compressed air supply was named the "paint distributor" was developed by Abner Peeler "for the painting of watercolors and other artistic purposes" and used a hand-operated compressor to supply continuous air. Stanley and his twin brother later invented a process for continuously coating photographic plates (Stanley Dry Plate Company) but are perhaps best known for their Stanley Steamer. This worked akin to a diffuser/atomiser and did not have a continuous air supply. Up until the mid-2000s, it was widely published that the airbrush was invented in 1893, but following research undertaken in collaboration with New York University's Conservation Department, and personal support from Professor Margaret Holben Ellis, a more detailed history emerged, which required many authorities such as Oxford Art to update their dictionaries and references.ĭepending on the definition requiring compressed air or not, the first spray painting device that could be called an airbrush was patented in 1876 (Patent Number 182,389) by Francis Edgar Stanley of Newton, Massachusetts. Spray painting developed from the airbrush and is considered to employ a type of airbrush. An airbrush is a small, air-operated tool that atomizes and sprays various media, most often paint but also ink and dye, and foundation. The announcer even stated this was a double, but the runner advanced only to first. I also encountered one bug: I hit a ball that bounced infield, then over the fence for what should have been a double. I tried copying the entire 270MB of CD data to the hard disk to see if that improved performance (note: this is not an option in the install menu, I just copied it by dragging the contents of the CD into a new folder on my hard disk.) It did speed up the game somewhat, but the batting problem didn't improve significantly. That little delay when it read from the CD just ruins the hand/eye coordination. I think this is because I never was able to time when I hit the mouse button and the player started their swing. Instead of getting better the more balls I hit, I never really improved. While the game is playable with this problem, it makes hitting the ball a little difficult. This makes the animation choppy and the mouse click to hit feels sluggish and unresponsive. For some reason, each swing of the bat causes the CD to be read. This game doesn't install any files to the hard disk - everything is run from the CD. I was extremely impressed with all the details of each character. Each batter has a distinct personality - from the boy who hops to the plate to the girl who says "my game is really tennis, anyway" when she strikes out. The pace is a little slow, but not too fast for children. Everything is here, and everything is easy enough for kids. Fielding is accomplished by clicking where you want the ball thrown, and running is as simple as clicking in the direction you want the runner to advance. Hitters swing at the ball and can even see the strike zone. Pitchers choose the pitch as well as the placement. Gameplay includes all the necessary elements. Pitchers throw crazy pitches such as the "Elevator" and the "Crazy Ball." Background ambient noises and the taunting by the opposing team add to the rich atmosphere that you can almost smell.Įverything about this game is charming and cute. Players choose from fields such as the sandlot, the urban parking lot, and the rich kid's backyard. Do you remember picking teams, taking turns picking from the best players until only the bad players were left? Do you remember picking someone's little brother because his big brother was a good player? It's all here. All the details that make the memories real are here - from the kids taunting the pitcher to the child with the asthma inhaler. Humongous Entertainment reached back into the past and captured all those childhood memories of baseball and digitally assembled them into this game. Backyard Baseballtakes you back to when you were a kid, when baseball was a game, and the team was hastily put together among the kids in the neighborhood. Imagine a game just like it was with the youthful innocence of a child. A game where multi-million dollar contracts are unknown. Imagine a game where the players play for the love of the game, not the money. The series proved successful, lasting from 1999 until 2009, where it ended with a television movie entitled ‘Big Picture Show’. After many more months of concepts and planning, the programme was put straight into production without the use of a 7 minute pilot episode, which was one of a number of firsts for the company that came as a result of Ed Edd n Eddy. Both channels were very keen on working with the show, but Danny wanted to have creative control over his production, which Cartoon Network later allowed after some negotiation. After working over a few months on a concept for a children’s programme entitled ‘Ed Edd n Eddy’, he sent a concept sheet to Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon to see if they would be interested in picking up his show for production. After this work with adult animated productions, Danny decided to begin work with children’s productions again. After this, he created the animated shorts programme ‘Cartoon Sushi’ for MTV in 1997. Later, Danny would start up the production studio a.k.a Cartoon, which later resulted in the production of the series ‘The Brothers Grunt’ for MTV, which lasted from 1994 to 1995. This led to Antonucci being picked up for commercial work for clients such as MTV due to the short’s popularity. He would later work on his short film ‘Lupo the Butcher’ at Rocketship Limited, which would later go onto be shown at multiple film festivals in America. Eventually, Antonucci would later get a job in Vancouver working at International Rocketship Limited, where he would animate short films and commercial work. This resulted in him working on shows such as The Smurfs and Scooby Doo & Scrappy Doo. Antonucci initially studied at The Sheridan College of Visual Arts, before quitting his course to go to Canimage Production. Of all of his works, he’s best known for his work on the series Ed Edd n Eddy for Cartoon Network. Danny Antonucci is a Canadian animator and director who was born on February 27th 1957. Not enough? It trimmed and shaped our bushes and effortlessly chopped even thick branches cleanly.īoth of the areas that we trimmed were far from electric outlets, and so a corded trimmer wouldn’t have been much use. My father and I were both very impressed with the EGO 56V hedge trimmer. My dad smiled and happily exclaimed that he’d certainly enjoy one of these as a Father’s Day gift. While the trimmer would have happily held out for more, we were both exhausted from working in such a humid day. After an hour and fifteen minutes in the heat, we quit trimming. “I think they lied to us,” my dad said grinning, feeling rather exhausted after holding this 12 pound weight in outstretched arms. We were both astonished as we reached the end of this massively overgrown row of bushes and the battery hadn’t quit yet. I assured him it would almost certainly need a recharge soon, as we were getting very close to an hour of constant use. There were quite a few large branches 1/2″ to 3/4″ thick.Īs we were 20 minutes into this row, my dad again asked me how long the trimmer was supposed to last. We gave it a shot and were impressed as soon as we started trimming these overgrown monsters. We were all somewhat joking about using the trimmer on this row, as many of these bushes were 8-12 feet tall. My mother heckled him to see how well the trimmer fared on their other overgrown hedge row that had much larger, more mature, and even more unkempt bushes. After about 30 minutes he finished trimming the whole row and said: “How long is this thing supposed to last? It’s still working!” I set him loose upon a hedge row consisting of 17 bushes about chest-high. “Not bad, yeah, this cuts pretty nicely” he said in a pleased voice, but I could tell he was very skeptical if it would hold up to more than a couple of bushes. I brought the trimmer over to his house with a freshly charged battery, and we immediately tried it on a large bush beside the house. My dad was excited to help test the new cordless trimmer, and he had many bushes in need of trimming after years of neglect. Electronic brake to stop blade action immediately with trigger release.Fully charged in 40 minutes with standard charger.Powered by 56V Lithium-Ion 2.0Ah battery (according to EGO, this is the industry’s most powerful battery).I have only used hedge trimmers a handful of times in the past, so I sought advice and testing with my dad, a man with over 35 years experience in the landscaping, nursery, and tree care industry. I was not sure what to expect from the EGO hedge trimmer. The EGO hedge trimmer kit, which comes with a battery and charger, is available for $199, and the bare tool is available for $99.
